Former Pupils Toast Memory of the Bard at London Burns Supper

FLondon Burns Supper 2010ormer pupils and friends of Hutchesons' gathered at the Caledonian Club in London on 28 January for the annual Burns Supper. From the introduction by new Chairman of the Board David Dobson (C1964), an animated recitation of "Scots wha hae" by current pupil Gordon Biggart and Grace from Graham MacAllister (C1962), the evening proceeded in traditional style, punctuated by musical interludes from current pupils, devised and accompanied by Ken Walton, Head of Music Performance at Hutchesons'.

TLondon Burns Supper 2010he Address to the Haggis was given by Ian Brodie, who is married to Moira Brodie, nee Ritchie (C1972). Harley Atkinson (C1957) delivered the Immortal Memory. Sixth-year pupil Crawford McInally-Kier gave the toast to the Lassies and the Reply was from Sandie Ferrans (C2003), sister of the current head boy, Alistair and head girl herself in 2003.

The evening concluded with Auld Lang Syne and a vote of thanks from Mike Martin, Senior Depute Rector at Hutchesons'.

The next London Burns Supper will take place in January 2012.

  • Charlotte McKechnie [S6] sang "A Rosebud by my early walk" and "John Anderson my Jo"
  • Connor Going [S6] and Crawford McInally-Keir [S6] sang "Ae fond kiss"
  • Connor Going sang "My luv is like a red, red rose"
  • Connor Going, Crawford McInally-Keir and Gordon Biggart sang "Willie bre'd a peck o' malt"
