Scots Verse and Music Competition 2010

Only two pupils left with the quaichs, but the Scots Verse and Music Competition at Kingarth Street was an event for everyone. The whole school gathered to sing stirring renditions of "Caledonia" and "A Man's a Man for A' That", while those pupils who had made it through to the final of the Scots Verse or Music competition nervously sat on the stage awaiting their turn to perform.

Scots Verse 2010The adjudicator was Dr Kirsteen McCue, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow, and she made references to the many excellent performances of verse, ranging from Burns to brand-new unpublished poetry, and to the high standard of singing and playing.

Scots Verse 2010In the end, the winners were Sam Holloway [P4] for his rendition of Burns' "To a Mouse" and Barnaby Woods [P7] for 'Timour the Tartar', a reel played on the cello.
