Hutchesons' pupils represent Botswana in Bath

Model UN Conference - Bath - March 2010Earlier this spring, five pupils in S5 attended the annual Model United Nations (MUN) Conference in Bath – the largest such conference in the UK. The conference was held over the weekend of 5th-7th March 2010 and involved a total of 700 delegates from schools worldwide, from as far afield as California and Germany. The delegation from Hutchesons’ was representing Botswana -- a relatively stable Commonwealth country in southern Africa – familiar in the West through the novels of Alexander McCall Smith. Pupils spent the weekend sitting on a range of committees and taking part in numerous debates, on topics ranging from the seriousness of Iran’s nuclear ambitions to whether Chuck Norris would make a good US President! Everyone agreed that the School’s participation in the conference had been a great success, providing pupils and staff with a thoroughly enjoyable insight into the workings of the UN and diplomatic services. The School are looking forward to participating in the MUN conference held at George Watson’s College this coming weekend and are keen to attend other MUN conferences in the not too distant future.
