Hutchesons' Pupils visit China

China Mar 2010It was no April Fool for 35 pupils as they flew to Beijing on 1 April for a cultural week in China. Accompanied by Mrs Henderson, Mr Uprichard, Mrs Madden, Mrs  Smith and Miss Ross, the pupils, all from S2 to S4, divided their time between Beijing and Xi'an.

S4 pupils Rebecca McDonald and Kirsty Gray report:

China Mar 2010Our week in China was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The entire week passed by in a whirlwind of awe and excitement. We climbed the Great Wall, marvelled at the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven, and visited the world renowned Tiananmen Square. On the Thursday night we went to 'The Silk Alley Market', picked up some bargains and leant how to haggle along the way! We took the overnight train to Xi'an, which is an 11-hour journey from Beijing. Once in Xi'an, we visited the Terracotta Warriors, which were fascinating. We tried our hand at Chinese calligraphy, saw a traditional Chinese acrobatic show, and a few of us even experienced Tai-Chi with the locals. The China trip was truly remarkable and wouldn't have been the same without our energetic tour guides, Gin, Lotus and Sun-Ping.
