Eco-Schools Conservation Update

The Hutchi-Eco team have been working hard in the school conservation area over the last month.

S3 Boys conservationDuring S3 Enrichment week a group of pupils weeded the three raised beds and prepared the soil for planting. Since then, groups of pupils from across the year groups have been planting leeks, lettuces, wild garlic, trees and flowering plants in the beds, which were made last summer with the help of the janitors and S4 pupils. The aim is to harvest some of our own Hutchie vegetables in the new term.

Last year's bluebells and daffodils are now well established and the trees planted four years ago, when the current S4 pupils started their careers at the Secondary School, are beginning to grow into a stunning hedgerow.

Fingers crossed we have a good summer to help the new plants do just as well!
