2010 Annual Prizegiving

Matilda Greig, Dr Ken Greig and Russell ParkThe 2009-2010 session came to an end on Thursday 24 June with the annual prizegiving in the Beaton Road Assembly Hall at Hutchesons'.

Rector Dr Ken Greig acknowledged the contributions of many throughout the past session, and David Dobson, new Chair of the Board of Govenors, delivered his first Prizegiving speech.

The Prizegiving address was given by Prof Brian O Williams MD, Hon DSc, FRCP, FRCS, Governor and past President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. His wife, Martha, presented the prizes.

Charlotte McKechnie [S6], who also won prizes for poetry and Classics, revealed one of her many talents as she sang 'The Singer' by Michael Head.

Three new awards were announed at the 2010 Prizegiving, each representing the values and achievements upheld by Hutchesons'.

The Jane Rae Award for Excellence in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Examinations, named after Mrs Jane Rae, Hutchie FP and long term music adminstrator, who died in January 2010.

The Mary Y Adam Award is given to the pupil who has "contributed significantly to the Christian life of the School" and is named after the late Miss Mary Adam (C1943), RE teacher and lecturer and an active member of the Pollokshields United Reform Church and ever supportive of young people.

The Jan and David Dobson Award is given to a pupil who has made "a significant contribution to the wider musical life of the School", and was presented by current Chairman of the Governors David Dobson and his wife, Jan, to mark his time as Deacon Convenor of the Trades House, Glasgow.
