Five S6 pupils from Hutchesons' took part in the recent UK Schools Games which took place in and around Newcastle and in which 1,700 young people were involved in 10 sports, all staying in the Halls of Residence at Newcastle University. Four of our pupils played in the Girls Hockey Squad and one represented the Scottish Schools Athletics team. All came home with bronze medals.
"The opening and closing ceremonies were both spectacular," said one of the pupils, "and the address by Jonathan Edwards was amazing." Amy Williams, Olympic Bob Skeleton Champion, declared the games officially open.

Matthew Kerr (first from right)competed in the Triple Jump and finished third, with a new lifetime best and school record distance of 14.32m. He is now closing in fast on our oldest school athletics record, Hamish Robertson's 14.45m which has stood since 1965!
Kirsten McIntosh, Heather Lang, Lucy Lanigan and Emma O'Rourke represented Scotland at Hockey. They played three games, drawing 0-0 with Wales but losing 2-4 to Ireland and 2-4 to England. Results elsewhere meant that they earned a bronze medal, with Ireland winning gold ahead of England. Kirsten captained the team and Lucy finished top scorer for Scotland with two goals, one against Ireland and the last goal of the tournament, against England.
