So that pupils at Hutchesons' can gain a fuller understanding of what island life is like in comparison to city life, Primary 2 classes have each sent a bear from the Hutchesons’ family to live on an island with local children.

Calum Wins National Debate
Sixth-year pupil Calum Macdonald beat out competition from across the UK to win the national final of the Historical Association’s ‘Great Debate'.

Girls and Boys Bring Home Golds from Scottish Cross Country Championships
Hutchesons’ teams took four golds out of a possible eight at the Scottish Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships on 8 March.

Top Marks in Higher Physics and Human Biology
Douglas Chiah achieved first place in Higher Physics and will receive a prize from the Institute of Physics at their annual meeting in June. Morag McLellan obtained the top mark in Higher Human Biology.

Dancing the Day Away
Primary 2 pupils danced up a storm during their Burns Celebration. They also recited Scots poems and sampled haggis, neeps and tatties.

Victory for Second Year Running
The Hutchesons’ Girls Team won the February St Aloysius’ College Road Relay Race for the second consecutive year. The major athletics event is held each year in Kelvingrove Park.

Young Enterprise Business Wins 1st Prize
Trading under the name ‘Acid Cherry’, a group of S6 pupils from Hutchesons’ Grammar School won the Young Enterprise Prize at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 15 December, out of dozens of business teams fielded from 35 different schools.

The Lord McGowan Memorial Lecture: Janette Anderson Chief Executive First Engineering
Lord McGowan, one of Hutchesons’ most successful alumni, had a distinguished career in business and was chairman of the chemical giant ICI, holding this post for 20 years. Janette Anderson (C1982) delivered the 2007 Lord McGowan Memorial Lecture.
