The Secondary School's catering team takes great satisfaction in offering good quality food to pupils, staff and visitors.
The Dining Room is a modern, vibrant and friendly environment and is the main area for pupils to socialise within the school. Recently refurbished, the Dining Room seats 320 people and is situated in the centre of the school overlooking the secret garden. Adjacent to the dining room is the S6 Bistro, seating 80 of our senior pupils and allowing them some privacy and an area to relax or congregate.
Staff and pupils can choose from a large range of freshly prepared traditional, vegetarian, pasta, salads, sandwiches and snack foods. The Dining Room is open for breakfast, morning break and lunch. We aim to provide the same quality of service and food that you may find in the High Street, at a substantially lower price.
Menus operate on a three-week cycle.
Breakfast: 8.15am - 8.45am
Morning Break: 10.10am - 10.30am
Lunch Service: 12.15pm - 1.30pm
Our vending machines offer snacks and cold drinks (no added sugar) during and after school hours.
The school utilises the latest smart card technology allowing pupils to pay for meals without having cash on hand. Parents or pupils can top up the smart cards by cheque or cash through the cash office, or if preferred, pupils can load the cards at one of our four cash loaders. In order to control pupils spending, all cards are set for a maximum spend of £8.00 per day.
Cards are the property of the school and should be looked after by pupils. Vandalised or damaged cards will be withdrawn from service and a replacement card will have to be purchased @ £2.50. Should at any time pupils forget their card or money, please contact the cash office who will be happy to assist or issue a temporary card for the day.
We are committed to providing and supporting healthier eating within the school and have been awarded the Consumer Focus Scotland, Healthyliving Award
If parents or pupils wish to talk about any aspect of the catering services we would be happy to discuss any ideas or suggestions.
Senior Depute Rector Mike Martin talks about the lunch service at Hutchesons'.
The Primary lunchroom is where pupils and many members of staff congregate at lunchtime. P1 and P2 pupils may have a two-course meal (from the October break for P1 pupils) supervised by a classroom assistant and payable on a termly basis. Pupils from P3 to P7 may buy lunch on a daily basis or termly in advance.
