Diet in childhood plays an essential role in growth, development, well-being and educational performance. At Hutchesons' we ensure that primary and secondary pupils can choose from a large range of traditional, vegetarian, pasta, salads, sandwiches and snack foods, and benefit from the promotion of appropriate food and drink choices.
The Dining Room at Beaton Road is the setting for a hungry mass of pupils as the lunch bell rings at 12.30. Following a substantial extension and complete refurbishment, the dining room provides a comfortable environment for pupils and staff to buy and eat their food, and a wide variety of hot and cold meals, snacks and drinks is available before school starts, during the morning interval and at lunchtime. Pupils use a swipe card which enables them to buy their food more quickly and easily. They simply top up the amount on their card using machines located around the School and, as well as using it to buy school lunches, can also use them for the vending machines. The system also allows pupils to carry less cash around with them.
The Bistro, adjacent to the Dining Room, provides the S6 pupils with a more private dining area for both the morning interval and lunchtime.
The Primary lunchroom is where pupils and many members of staff congregate at lunchtime. P1 and P2 pupils may have a two-course meal (from the October break for P1 pupils) supervised by a classroom assistant and payable on a termly basis. Pupils from P3 to P7 may buy lunch on a daily basis or termly in advance.
