ENQUIRIES
There are three main areas of enquiry at this time.
Appeals for the upgrade of subject results
As you know neither pupils nor parents may make an appeal to SQA. Appeals are initiated and made by Subject Heads of Department and the School. A few days after the publication of results SQA will send to the School lists of candidates per subject for whom the school, under SQA regulations, may make an appeal providing the department holds appropriate evidence to justify an appeal for upgrade. Before the publication of results, SQA has already had a review process for candidates who did not perform as well in examinations as the school expected and estimated them to do. Such cases will be listed by SQA for consideration for appeal.
The School will definitely appeal when a pupil is listed by SQA and when we hold evidence of higher achievement as this is clearly in the interest of the pupil. Such evidence must come from the current session over all aspects of the course, if it is to be considered relevant by SQA. All SQA awards are based on demonstrated evidence of attainment and not on potential.
The new Session begins for staff on Monday 22 August 2011. However, the 4-9 August is set aside for Heads of Department, or subject representatives, to review and analyse results and to assemble evidence for appeals. If pupils or parents have questions about aspects of appeals, the procedure is to contact, in writing, Mrs S Frame, Examination Manager who will arrange for a response. Pupils for whom appeal is being made will be informed by letter posted first class mail to their home address on Wednesday 10 August.
