Deciding to go to Australia was one of the best decisions I ever made, even if it did mean I was at school during my summer holiday. I made friends for life and can't wait to go back and visit.
Four pupils from Hutchesons' spent the summer at school - in Australia, where the winter temperatures were much the same as summer in Scotland! Goulburn Valley Grammar School in Shepparton, Victoria, around two hours' drive north of Melbourne, was the destination for four fourth-year pupils. Their exchange partners will spend five weeks in Glasgow in November and December.
The lunch menu had a much wider array of food which could be ordered beforehand for quickness and we all sat with our new friends. There was no indoor seating and you were not allowed to eat in the classrooms, so fresh air was pretty much forced upon us, not that we minded.
I went to Sydney for the weekend, where I climbed the Harbour Bridge, saw Billy Elliot, went on a water taxi and toured the famous Rocks Market. When helping out at a horse-riding event, I discovered that I was allergic to horses and had to get medical attention!
For me, the most enjoyable part of the trip was the hour-long bus journey to and from school every day.
