Governance

Hutchesons' Grammar School is governed by Hutchesons' Educational Trust, led by a governing body of 13 nominated governors and not more than nine co-opted governors.

The Governors are legally responsible for the overall direction and development of the School through good governance and clear strategic planning and they function within the legal and regulatory framework and in line with the Trust's Constitution.

The Governors have a duty and responsibility to the beneficiaries of the School for:

  • Strategic Planning;
  • Objective Setting;
  • Risk Management; and
  • Financial Management.

They also have Statutory responsibilities for Educational Standards, Child Protection and Health and Safety. They carry out these duties and responsibilities through Board meetings and ensure the effective conduct of the business through five main Committees:

  • Development and Marketing;
  • Education;
  • Finance;
  • Human Resources; and
  • Property.

These Committees direct the Board in:

  • upholding its fiduciary duty;
  • providing public confidence and trust in the School;
  • acting with due care and diligence and in the best interests of the School;
  • ensuring that the School is solvent and its assets protected;
  • determining policy and, where applicable, seeking external professional advice;
  • guarding against fraud and future difficulties;
  • operating in a manner consistent with its purposes and objects

The Governors delegate the day-to-day management and running of the school and the Trust to the Rector, with support from his Senior Management team, and the Bursar.

By working together, all groups promote the public benefit offered by the School, and endorse best practice at all times.
