S5 pupil Alessandro Schenini is preparing for the trip of a lifetime as he has been selected for the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas next month.
The 17-year-old is now preparing to join over 1,300 young athletes from across the world for the largest sporting event of its kind on July 19th - 23rd.
Competing for Giffnock North AAC, Alessandro was selected to represent Scotland for the biggest event of its kind, following a number of personal successes.
He broke the Scottish U17 Indoor record for long jump with a leap of 7.09m during an outstanding indoor season last year, in which he won gold at the Scottish U17 Championships, Scottish Schools Championships and England Athletics U17 Championships.
His impressive medal haul began in 2016, winning England Athletics U17 outdoor title, bronze at the SIAB Schools International and silver at the Celtic Games.
Moving up to the U20 age category in 2017, Alessandro won silver at the Scottish Junior Indoor Championships and was a silver medallist in both the 60m and long jump at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships.
Having just completed his exams, he trains five times a week and is now looking forward to his adventure to the Caribbean.
Good luck Alessandro!
