Birthday Celebrations

Former pupil, Flo Smith, had a fantastic celebration as she marked her 109th birthday on Saturday, April 21.

Flo, who is from the Class of 1927, shares her birthday with Queen Elizabeth and is the School's oldest former pupil.

Once a keen hockey player in the 1st XI team, Flo began her Hutchie adventures at Kingarth Street in 1914 - just two years after the School opened its doors.

S6 prefects, Orla O’Reilly, Jan King and Holly Burns joined Depute Rector for Alumni and Development, Mr McDougall and Alumni Co-Ordinator, Mrs Duncan to present a bouquet on behalf of the School to Flo at the Antonine Care Home in Bearsden.

Everyone enjoyed listening to her fond memories, including the time she owned up to smashing a window after playing "winkers" to the Headmaster, Mr McVicar - who admired her bravery for owning up.

Happy Birthday Flo!
