Hutchesons’ is recognised as a Glasgow institution which has thrived for over 350 years. Both our primary and secondary campuses successfully blend the best in modern facilities, with a sense of tradition and permanence.

Kingarth Street

The Kingarth Street building, by Thomson and Sandilands, was opened in the heart of the Southside in 1912.

It was recognised as an outstanding building from the start, described in the literature of the day as a “Renaissance palazzo with Baroque details and two stairtowers” and became a listed building in 1992. The children that pass through the doors now, over a century later, will find a well provisioned contemporary primary school with suitably small class sizes, watched over by compassionate and dedicated teachers. Technology has replaced the chalkboards and writing slates, and children enjoy access to a stunning purpose built library, a brand new adventure style playground and an outdoor classroom, amongst other features.

The Fotheringay Centre

The Fotheringay Centre was the result of a unique partnership between Hutchesons’ Grammar School and the Pollokshields United Reformed Church.

Created from the extensive restoration of a beautiful turn-of-the-century church, the centre now houses a large auditorium, lecture theatre, seminar room and computer suite as well as providing high-tech music and ICT facilities for the School.

Beaton Road

The highly regarded campus at Crossmyloof, designed by Boswell Mitchell & Johnston, was fully opened in 1960 with the aim of uniting the educational needs of the day with the “intangible spirit” of Hutchesons’.

Since then the site has been continuously improved, with the addition of a specialist science block and an expansive modern new library, of university quality. Over recent years the building has had new frontage, updated classrooms and fresh reception areas. The impressive assembly hall, seating over 500, was completely refurbished in 2014.

The substantial grounds have allowed for expansion with the addition of large external sports hall and gym and the Alix Jamieson Stadium, a world-class facility with a contemporary floodlit hockey pitch and international standard athletics track. The school also has substantial playing fields at Norwood and Hutchesons’ At Pollok Park. The curtain rose on a purpose built, state-of-the-art, drama studio in 2012 which houses an adaptable theatre, specialised practice studios and a cutting edge lighting and technical gallery.

2019 saw the opening by FP Leon Smith OBE of our purpose-built and sector-leading athletic development facility.

Hutchesons’ at Pollok Park (H@PP)

The excellent facilities at H@PP and our neighbouring Norwood playing fields include rugby and hockey pitches, a large gym hall, dance studio, climbing wall and changing facilities.

The school’s rugby teams play their home matches at neighbouring Norwood Playing Fields on Saturday mornings but at other times the pitches are available for hire.
