Japanese drummers are a big hit

Pupils got a real flavour of Japanese culture last Friday when Fumi and Yushin Toda from ‘Japanese Matsuri for Scotland’ visited the school.

They held a Japanese Taiko drumming taster workshop at Beaton Road during lunchtime – and the session was a big hit with pupils.

Seven S1-S4 pupils from the Japanese club as well as a few enthusiastic staff learnt various drumming rhythms and sang Japanese songs.

Mr Trotter and Advay Iyer (S1) had such a powerful drumming technique the guitars fell from the music room walls!

During the West End Festival Japanese Matsuri for Scotland will host free hands-on Japanese cultural activities (wearing a kimono, writing your name in Japanese calligraphy, colouring images from traditional folk stories, furoshiki Japanese wrapping) from 1-2:30pm and a Taiko drumming performance from 2:30-3:30pm at Wellington Church across from Glasgow University on Saturday 11th June.
