Former pupil Leon Smith was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Leon (C1993) is the captain of the Davis Cup team which one the international tennis competition for the first time since 1936.
Leon, who is also the LTA’s head of men’s tennis, told the National newspaper: “It’s humbling.
“A very average tennis player who started out on a coaching journey and then suddenly we’re doing something as a team that gripped British fans.
“It’s a huge privilege, and as much as it’s me being awarded this OBE, it is testament to the team.
“It’s the team that’s enjoyed this journey just as much as me.”
Hutchesons’ Director of Sport Stuart Lang said: “The School is incredibly proud of Leon’s achievements in tennis and it is fantastic for him to receive Royal recognition for all his hard work and commitment. He is a real ambassador for the sport and recently visited the primary school with the Davis Cup.”
Well done Leon!
