Model UN success

Around 30 pupils from Hutchie and Williamwood participated in a mini model United Nations Conference.

The purpose of MUN is to explore world issues and understand both the challenge and success of global cooperation.

It gave participating S3-S6 pupils an idea of the workings of a larger, national Model UN conference and to teach the rules and language of formal debate procedure, which were quickly picked up by all.

At our conference we had five committees each consisting of 6 pupils and two chairs. The committees included: Health, Human Rights, EcoSoc, Disarmament and Political.

A variety of topical issues were discussed including religious clothing regulations and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in refugee populations.

The conference was very successful and all delegates did very well.
