Niamh's gold medal haul

Talented S4 pupil Niamh Junner is hoping her recent run of Gold success in Karate competitions will take her one step closer to her Olympic dream.

Niamh competed in the Scottish National Kumite Championships on Sunday and won Gold in the +54kg Cadet (under 16 years) category and also in the Cadet Team event with two other girls from her Karate club.

It was her last main competition for 2016 and she made sure she finished on a high. She now hopes to be considered for selection to the Scottish National Team in November to compete in the European 2017 U21 Championships in Bulgaria next February.

Niamh is also applying to British Karate’s “Athlete Talent Identification Program” for the Olympics in 2020 & 2024. She will attend a selection session on October 15th.

Niamh said: “My ultimate goal is to compete for Team GB at an Olympics.”

Good luck Niamh!
