P4's plant talk

Primary four pupils are learning about plants and Mr Windows from the Sports Turf Research Institute came in to talk to them about how he uses plant science in his work.

As a 'Turf Agronomist', Mr Windows is responsible for the pristine golf courses, football pitches and tennis courts that we see at major sporting events such as The Open and Wimbledon.

He showed us many different types of grasses and we were surprised by the diverse nature and the huge number of grasses that there are in the UK.

The technology that he uses in his work was fascinating! He had machines to measure everything from the moisture content of the soil to the speed of the green on a golf course.
