The P7s enjoyed a Shakespearean day out at Beaton Road today to help them prepare for their move to the senior school in August.
Although there has been much fanfare because this is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Shakespeare Day at Hutchesons’ is an annual event that has run for a number of years. It is an important part of the process of transition for pupils from P7 into S1.
The pupils have been studying Twelfth Night in class and this was taken as the general theme as they explored Shakespeare’s world through Art, Drama, Language and Music.
They learned about the art of stage fighting, the poetry of Shakespeare’s language, the instruments and rhythms of Elizabethan dances and how to disguise oneself behind masks.
It was an exciting if exhausting whirlwind tour of the Elizabethan stage.
