Primary sports day 2016

Pupils and parents basked in the summer sunshine at this year’s Primary Sports day on Saturday - and a fantastic day was had by all.

As the temperature hit 24°C the children took part in several novelty races throughout the afternoon and it was smiles all round at they took to the track and field for some friendly competition.

Pupils in P1-4 marched into the Alix Jamieson Stadium at exactly 1pm to loud cheers from family and friends - and leading the charge was the School’s very own furry mascot Squirrel Hutchkins.

They then split off into year groups to take part in the flat race, bat and bean bag race, hoop race, partner race and the egg and spoon races.

The children - all of whom had been preparing for the bid day during P.E. lessons – enjoyed the challenges and were very proud to display their winning stickers.

The class teachers also got into the spirit of things with many of them competing in the track race and a number had made a special effort to dress up in house colours.

A fantastic atmosphere was provided by Mr Dewar who made sure there were some good tunes to accompany all the sporting action.

At 2.45pm the P5-7 children took part in the traditional procession that marks the start of their Sports Day events. Again Squirrel Hutchins made sure he was front row, centre – he’s never one to miss a photo opportunity!

They took part in the 5x80m relay race, football dribbling race, hockey dribbling race, hoop race and the egg and spoon race. There were smiles and laughter as friends raced against one another. The competitive spirit was evident.

The 1957 Group provided refreshments throughout the day. Tea and coffees were available but it was the cold refreshments all round on one of the hottest sports days in recent years. The sweetie, popcorn and ice cream stalls proved very popular with the pupils – and the parents!

Special thanks must go to the P.E. department who put on a very well-organised event which was enjoyed by everyone!
