S3 Drama competition

The annual S3 Drama competition was held last week and the audience was treated to some memorable adaptations of Shakespeare.

Six groups participated in the competition which was judged by Guy Hollands who is the Associate Director of the Citizens Theatre.

The stimulus for the competition was Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the performances were a collaboration between S3 Drama Club actors and S6 Advanced Higher Drama pupils, who directed the extracts.

The winning group was directed by S6’s Gideon Green and the cast included Gregor Brown, Pragna Challapalli, Rania Khan, Alicia Brooks, Erica Drummond, Kathryn Barr, Steven Slater, Mia Jamieson and Josh Girvan.

Gideon’s interpretation brought the Shakespeare play to life in a Glasgow setting.

He said: “My concept features two groups of friends on a birthday night out in contemporary Glasgow.  It revolves around the tumultuous relationship between Oberon and Titania and the complicated dynamics of young love!”

The individual actor prize went to Alex Hyman who played Oberon in the piece directed by Greg Cross.
