Two sporting sisters have hit the headlines today as they take the competitive squash circuit by storm.
Orla and Jemma Young’s recent international success was reported on page 3 of today’s Herald newspaper under the headline “Move over Andy and Jamie for new sibling racquet stars”.
Fourteen year-old Orla and Jemma, 12, are being tipped for the top and both girls want to raise the profile of the sport.
Orla, S3, has just been ranked No 1 in Europe in the under 15 category – an achievement all the more noteworthy as she has only just turned 14. S1's Jemma, who is No 1 in Scotland in her age group, recently came fourth in the Danish Junior Open, which attracts talented players from all over the world.
Rector Mr Gambles said: “Sport is an integral part of a Hutchesons’ education and pupils are offered a range of options from rugby and hockey to rowing and rock-climbing. Many of our pupils excel internationally in their chosen sport and Orla and Jemma are showing real potential. Hard work, dedication and determination to be the very best you can be are at the core of a Hutchie education.
“The school is finalising its sports strategy which will see a number of improvements to the current facilities with the overall aim of engaging every pupil in sport. At Hutchie we want to encourage fitness and health for life.”
