European Parliament Visit

S5’s Claire-Marie attended the European Youth seminar at the European Parliament last month. Here, she describes the experience.

On the 17th of February myself and a group of 30 other young people left for Brussels as part of the Glasgow Youth Council (GYC). On the Tuesday we all attended the European Youth seminar held in the European Parliament.

Groups of young people from across Europe were present with individuals from Estonia and Denmark taking part to name a few. The groups all shared opinions on a range of issues including how to inject new life into democracy, new technology and its place in the future as well as Europe’s ageing population.

I was fortunate enough to be selected to speak with Members of the European Parliament such as Judith-Misspelled WordKirton-Darling about how to engage young people in European politics. The whole trip was highly insightful and allowed me to form connections with people my age from across Europe.

The topics discussed were relevant issues facing Europe and it was interesting to hear everyone’s take on the topics and how Europe could go about most effectively tackling these modern day issues.
