P5 Visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse

Last week, our Primary 5 pupils travelled to Edinburgh to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The trip came as part of the “Mary, Queen of Scots” topic, which they are currently learning about in class, and were able to visit the resource room to hear about Mary’s story. After spending time there and identifying various courtiers’ jobs by looking at artefacts, pupils were able to take a tour of the palace itself. Much to their amazement, during the tour pupils had the opportunity to walk through Mary’s actual living quarters and see the site of where David Rizzio met his grisly end.

Adjacent to the palace is the herb garden and following the tour, pupils were able to stop for lunch in the sunshine and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip and pupils gained a real insight into Mary’s life.
