S1 Burns Supper 2022

S1 pupils and staff had a wonderful time at the 2022 belated Burns Supper held at Beaton Road. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all with live performances and a wonderful meal.

It was amazing to see so much talent and enthusiasm from S1 and their efforts made the supper one to remember.

Here, S1 pupil Cameron has written a short story on the much anticipated event.

On Thursday 3rd March, S1 pupils and parents enjoyed a belated Burns supper.

The evening was the first activity that S1 pupils have organised after months of disruption by Covid restrictions. This only made it all the more enjoyable when the evening finally arrived.

Much preparation went on behind the scenes with the help of Mrs Liddell and Miss Beedham.

S1 pupils performed every role other than the Master of Ceremonies, which the exuberant Mr McDougall, Depute Rector carried out, and the Address to the Haggis, which was excellently – and dramatically – performed by PE’s Mr Dewar.

The supper started at 7pm and it was a great night for all, with the S1 parents watching their children performing at the best of their abilities.

The evening started with Anya delivering the ‘Welcome’ in amazing style, followed by the impressive voice of Martha singing ‘Loch Lomond’.

Before the starter, Emily played ‘A Red Red Rose’ on her cello and then everyone enjoyed a delicious potato and leek soup.

After the serving pupils had taken all the plates away, Sheer gave us the ‘The Immortal Memory’ and it was “sheer class”. Rachael said the ‘Selkirk Grace’ before Hamish piped in the haggis.

Much praise must go to the wonderful catering pupils who brought out the haggis for everyone to enjoy.

Cameron performed ‘To a Mouse’ then Hamish and James played the fiddles so well that Mr McDougall insisted on an encore.

Jake delivered a highly entertaining ‘Toast to the Lassies’ with Emma and Rowan very ably returning ‘The Reply from the Lassies’.

The evening closed after cranachan with Rachael singing and Martha giving a gracious Vote of Thanks.

Many S1 pupils attended the Burns Supper even if they were not speaking or playing. Alfie said, “Even though I wasn’t performing, I had great fun on the night.”

Very well done to all those involved in making the night a great success.
