The Show Must Go On

Our 6th Year NC Drama students were determined the show would go on despite lockdown so have performed a radio play version of Noel Coward’s ‘Blithe Spirit’.

The pupils would normally have put on a theatre production in April and as they were performance-ready the Drama department came up with a plan B

Mrs Alderson said: “Clearly the live stage play didn’t happen. This was frustrating as all of their hard work and creative talent over a year wasn’t going to be shared on stage in front of a live audience.”

Mrs Alderson approached Samuel French, the licence holder, and asked if she could direct it as a radio play version, and they were happy to support this initiative. Working together but remotely the drama staff and pupils worked had to produce the play.

Mrs Alderson said: “So during the long evenings over two weeks, we met on ’Teams’ and worked on recording each scene of the play.

“I have to say it is one of the most enjoyable things I have done over the last ten weeks. There were times of helpless laughter and amazing creativity from our S6 leavers. I am so proud of the way they engaged with the project, attended all of the recordings, and were without a doubt professional in both their attitude and performances.

“I feel they need a huge, virtual round of applause for the work they put in.”
