S1 STEM Showcase

Find out more
The school hosted its very first STEM Showcase event last Thursday – a culmination of a week’s worth of research, experiments, surveys and analysis undertaken in Science, Maths, Computing and Geography lessons.

Pupils worked in groups to complete one of three projects, all based around the theme of sustainability: ‘Keeping the Lights On’, ‘CO2: Friend or Foe’, or ‘You Are What You Eat’. The projects highlighted the importance of various topics currently dominating global discourse including renewable energies, food waste and the impact of rising CO2.

On the day of the Showcase, pupils had to the opportunity to create a poster to display what they had found out, and the level of detail achieved was excellent. The afternoon saw all groups give a short presentation of their findings to one of our team of adjudicators. We are very grateful to Mr Gambles, Mr McCormick and Former Pupil, William Alexander, for their assistance in this very important role, and especially to Mr Alexander for his presentation on his career in Engineering.

The afternoon also saw a visit from Seonaid Warren, STEM Ambassador, who was on hand to discuss potential STEM careers with the pupils once their poster had been visited.

Well done to all pupils on what was a fantastic final Showcase and many congratulations to the winners.

Winners: C02 – Friend or Foe – Scarlet, Rachael, Roma, Zara, Sheer

Runners up: You Are What You Eat – Oliver, Elisa, Isla, and Alexandra , and Keeping The Lights On – Mohammed, Flora, Andrew, Amelia, and Anna .
