Academic excellence is not the only focus at Hutchesons’. Pupils have access to fantastic music, sports and drama facilities and many of our pupils are recognised externally for their achievements in these fields.
Hutchesons’ offers pupils an excellent all-through education from Pre-School to S6 and our pastoral care system ensures all our children are nurtured in an environment that allows them to excel in whichever area their talents lie.
We offer one of the most comprehensive, individual and varied curriculums in the country, specifically designed to provide a firm academic base and to support and encourage pupils to identify and strengthen their own specific interests and talents.
We devote a huge amount of time to ensure each pupil’s emotional and physical well-being, which is vital for a happy school environment. Our pastoral care staff are highly trained and pupils have a team of teachers to whom they can go to for support. The pastoral teams at Hutchesons’ are proactive as well as reactive and keep a watchful and protective eye over their pupils throughout the academic year.
With suitably small class sizes across the school and an enviably low pupil/teacher ratio, which ranges from 6-15 depending on secondary subject, our staff get to know all their pupils well. They can recognise their strengths and quickly identify any weaker areas of their learning in order to offer further support.
The arts at Hutchesons’ are well represented and many of our pupils have gone on to world-leading higher education institutions and into successful careers in often very competitive industries.
Our dedicated PE staff ensure sport and fitness opportunities for all pupils. In the last year our pupils have represented Scotland in hockey, rowing, karate, football and squash.
The Career Development and Higher Education department offers unrivalled support to pupils as they navigate their way through subject choice and the higher education application process.
