The strong, positive and caring ethos which underpins every aspect of life at Hutchesons’ starts from the moment children join the primary school when they become part of the diverse ‘Hutchie Family’.

Open Community

All staff work together to ensure children feel happy and secure and we operate a relaxed, welcoming open-door policy for parents.

Mutual respect is a core value and the House system creates a tangible sense of community across all year groups through House families, activity days and monthly House assemblies.

Other ways in which we actively promote this sense of belonging include;

  • A playground friends system
  • Primary 6 and 7 pupils monitoring younger classes
  • Book Week and regular story reading during which upper primary and Infant children enjoy paired reading.
  • A School Council comprising class representatives from P1-7 which discusses and influences decisions about aspects of school life.
