Pastoral care begins from the moment pupils join Hutchesons’. In the Primary School, children develop a strong sense of belonging through meaningful relationships with teachers and classmates, cross-year activities, pupil leadership opportunities and an inclusive, welcoming community.
Pupil voice is an important part of school life, with children encouraged to contribute through the School Council, committees and regular opportunities to share ideas. We are proud that our Primary School holds the UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting School Award, recognising our commitment to placing children’s rights, respect and participation at the centre of everything we do.
As pupils move through the School, the same ethos of care and encouragement continues, helping them develop independence while knowing support is always close at hand.
The wellbeing of every pupil is our highest priority. Our experienced pastoral team works alongside two Registered General Nurses, a qualified School Counsellor and trained Mental Health First Aiders to provide expert support across all age groups.

Robust safeguarding procedures, dedicated Child Protection Coordinators and a highly trained staff team ensure the highest standards of care, guided by Scotland’s Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) framework.
