Safe, valued & inspired

Guided by our pre-school team, children learn through exploration, creativity and hands-on experiences. Using natural resources, outdoor learning and real-world contexts, we encourage problem-solving, critical thinking and imagination, laying the foundations for a lifelong love of learning.

Throughout the year, children enjoy a rich programme of physical activities, including yoga, dance, and PE in our dedicated gym hall. Children also benefit from fortnightly PE lessons led by our specialist PE teachers. These sessions develop fundamental movement skills, nurture confidence and resilience, and provide an excellent foundation for a seamless transition into school life.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning is an integral part of the Pre-School experience, enriching the curriculum from Pre-School through to the Senior School and inspiring curiosity, confidence and a lifelong appreciation of the natural world.

With extensive on-site facilities, neighbouring Norwood playing fields and direct access to Pollok Country Park, children enjoy regular access to our dedicated outdoor spaces and woodland sessions, where they connect with nature through play-based learning.

From den building and climbing to imaginative play and environmental exploration, these experiences nurture confidence, resilience, teamwork and wellbeing while supporting every aspect of children’s development. Our grounds provide an inspiring setting for physical activity, environmental education and adventurous learning.

Our two-week rolling programme allows children to spend sustained time both on our school campus and at our woodland site, creating meaningful learning experiences in familiar environments. A shuttle bus operates between both locations for families with siblings in the Primary School.

Ready for Primary 1

A broad and balanced curriculum ensures children are fully prepared for the transition to Primary 1. As part of the Hutchesons’ community from the age of three, children enjoy a seamless educational journey built on strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, communication and personal development.

By the time they begin Primary, our children are confident learners, independent thinkers and enthusiastic members of the school community – ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the next stage of their education.

Experiences & Connections

Regular visits beyond the classroom form an important part of our curriculum, enriching children’s learning through first-hand experiences and meaningful connections with the local community.

Children enjoy exploring nearby places such as local shops, The Hidden Gardens, Govanhill Library and Queen’s Park, developing curiosity, independence and an understanding of the world around them.
