The pupils competed against 14 other schools from around Scotland and this year the challenge was ‘The Mystery of the missing Element’ to tie in with the International Year of the Periodic Table.
They won the Salters’ Challenge and had the fantastic opportunity to complete a number of practical experiments in order to solve the mystery set by Salters’ on the day.
At the beginning of the day, the pupils put on their safety goggles and lab coats and worked in pairs initially, then coming together to confirm their results.
They were thrilled to be announced winners in the afternoon and received some prizes and certificates to mark the big occasion. The day was rounded off with further problem solving activities after lunch and some spectacular chemistry demonstrations.
The school received a large set of molecular models for the Science Department and they had a great day working in the lab.
Very well done to all of the pupils involved and for representing Hutchie so well on the day!
