Your child must be aged 4 by the end of February prior to the session of your child's entry into Primary 1. The start of each session is in August each year. In the preceding October, following receipt of your application form, your child will be invited to attend an informal interview and assessment at the Primary School at Kingarth Street. The interviews begin in the middle of October and run until the middle of December with the oldest interviewed first. The second informal interview and assessment are at the end of January.
The assessment tests take place on Thursday 24 January. Please call the Admissions Registrar (see below) to find out more about entry to Primary 5 and to receive examples of past papers.
The entrance examination takes place at the end of January prior to the session of your child's entry into Secondary 1. The examination consists of English, Mathematics and a VRQ test and lasts from 9.30 am until 2.30 pm. We provide lunch, and senior pupils will give your child a tour of the school. We are happy to give you past papers so that you and your child know what to expect from the examination.
Intermediate entry is possible if a vacancy for the appropriate year exists. Each application will be considered according to its own individual merit and circumstance. Children wishing to apply for intermediate entry will be tested on the day of the entrance examination at the end of January.
All offers of places are sent out in the middle of February following assessments/entrance examination at the end of January and all acceptances must be received by the end of March. If a child is a pupil at another independent school, it is important that you discuss with them the fact that you are interested in applying for a place at Hutchesons' before bringing your child to sit an assessment.
Please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Registrar, Mrs Margaret Norman, on 0141 433 4443 if you have any questions, require any further information or would like an individual tour of the school.
