The Learning Support team specialises in identifying needs and providing additional support for children who experience challenges in their learning or who would benefit from enhancement to the core curriculum.

Identifying and supporting individual needs

In the Primary Department the Learning Support team aims to ensure that all pupils feel confident and enjoy learning. We provide additional support for children who experience challenges in their learning or who benefit from enhancement to the core curriculum. Early intervention is recognised as crucial to future progress and our Learning Support teachers work to identify and support pupils as they learn the essential skills required for reading, writing, number, motor co-ordination and social skills.

Support planning is responsive to the individual need of the pupil and is guided by target-led planning, monitoring and review. Individuals or groups may work in the designated support rooms or within the classroom. Support programmes may be short and intensive, or longer term.  We are committed to supporting pupils and families and welcome partnership and regular communication.  We aim to provide continuity of care for the duration of the Hutchie journey. If your son or daughter receives Learning Support you will be provided with the contact details of your child’s support teacher.
