In the preceding October, following receipt of your application form, your child will be invited to attend an informal interview and assessment at the Primary School at Kingarth Street. The interviews begin in the middle of October and run until the middle of December with the oldest interviewed first. The second informal interview and assessment are on Friday 27 January 2012.

We provide lunch, and senior pupils will give your child a tour of the school. We are happy to give you past papers so that you and your child know what to expect from the examination.

Primary and Secondary Intermediate Entry

Intermediate entry is possible if a vacancy for the appropriate year exists. Each application will be considered according to its own individual merit and circumstance. Children wishing to apply for intermediate entry will be tested in January and February on the following dates: P4 and P7 on 31 January, P2 and P6 on 1 February and P3 on 2 February. Those applying for places in Primary 6 and Primary 7 will also have a short interview on a separate date in January.

Offers of places

All offers of places are sent out in the middle of February following assessments/entrance examination at the end of January and all acceptances must be received by the end of March. If a child is a pupil at another independent school, it is important that you discuss with them the fact that you are interested in applying for a place at Hutchesons' before bringing your child to sit an assessment.
