In a scheme overseen by YPI Scotland, Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Scotland, pupils prepared presentations to demonstrate the work of their chosen charity and the impact the grant would make.
On the afternoon of Wednesday 9th October, the final was held in the Fotheringay Auditorium where three groups presented to a panel of judges. The charities the pupils represented were East Dunbartonshire Women’s Aid, Glasgow North East Carers Centre, and Flourish House.
The panel of judges was chaired by Depute Head Girl Maisie and also included Mr Mark Ronan, the Rector, Mrs Laura Stewart, Community Leader, and Ms Cheryl Martin from Scottish Equity Partners – Community Partner of YPI in Glasgow. YPI is a programme of The Wood Foundation.
The afternoon began with a performance of Harvest For The World by the S3 singers and rock band. Further musical entertainment was provided by Jessica, Kirsten, Shahadha, and Zoe – all S3.
The judges spoke about how making a decision was extremely difficult after a series of excellent presentations but ultimately decided to award the grant to Flourish House.
Congratulations to pupils Shahadha, Shirin, and Kirsten.
Flourish House is a mental health recovery community. Based on the International Clubhouse movement, it helps people build meaningful relationships through meaningful activity. As the only organisation of its kind in Scotland, it offers support to people with long-term mental illnesses, enabling them to gain a sense of well-being and recover confidence. The charity also encourages people to learn new skills to achieve social, financial and vocational goals and become active participants in the community.
Very well done to all of our S3 pupils who worked tirelessly to make the afternoon such a success.
