The school was proud to host a special ceremony to celebrate the outstanding achievements of 57 pupils who were awarded the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Silver Award.
Held in the Assembly Hall at Beaton Road, the ceremony was graced by the Director of DofE Scotland, Helen Anderson, who was on hand to present the well-earned awards to our pupils.
Pupils have demonstrated exceptional commitment and perseverance as they completed their Silver Award, which involved a combination of volunteering, physical challenges, skills development, and an adventurous journey. Their achievements not only reflect their personal growth but also their determination to make a positive impact on their community.
In total, pupils volunteered an impressive 4,108hours of their time between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024, contributing a value of £21,689 to the local community. These hours were spent volunteering in a range of activities, including helping at local charities, supporting younger students, and engaging in environmental conservation efforts.
Director of DofE Scotland, Helen Anderson, congratulated pupils for their dedication and emphasised the importance of the skills and experiences gained through the DofE Award. Helen said:
“The DofE Award is not just about earning a certificate–it’s about developing lifelong skills, gaining confidence, and giving back to the community. These pupils have shown exceptional effort, and they should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.”
The DofE Silver Award is a significant milestone in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme. Pupils complete four key sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and the Adventurous Journey. The Silver Award challenges participants to push their boundaries, discover new strengths, and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.
Dr Smith, DofE Coordinator, said:
“We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the pupils who received their Silver Awards this week. Their hard work, dedication, and generosity are an inspiration to us all.”
