Travelling 252 miles by bike between September 15th-24th, Nicholas took on the challenge in Malawi for 7 days, raising money for the Scottish charity who make prosthetics and orthotics for Malawians who require them.
On the trip, he said:
I joined a team of 18 people, we cycled from Mzuzu to Lilongwe, the length of Lake Malawi (roughly 252 miles) for 500 Miles.
Olivia Giles, the founder of the charity, is a former pupil of Hutchie. In 2002 Olivia contracted meningococcal septicaemia and underwent amputations of her hands and feet. She decided to help people who do not have access to a service such as the NHS and who would otherwise not become mobile and be able to live a full life.
Malawi is a very poor and economically underdeveloped country and it was a wonderful opportunity to see how people there live and to help such a good cause.”
Before returning home, Nicholas kindly gave his bike to technician Dominic who helped to build the prosthetics and orthotics.
