With over 300 participants from 26 different schools, Hutchie delegates from S4 – S6 represented the countries of France and Egypt and took the conference by storm.
The Model United Nations (MUN) is a student-led simulation of the real United Nations and gives pupils the opportunity to engage with present key international issues, and the chance to learn diplomatic and political language and procedures.
Pupils performed extremely well, and Alison (S6), Rohan (S5), Zain (S5), Maha (S6), and Niklas (S5), earned five Commended or Highly Commended awards amongst them. A special mention was also extended to Tinashe (S5) by the organisers. Lucy (S5) was our first-ever participant on the International Court of Justice, and S6’s Jack deserves an honourable mention for coming off the bench at the last minute to represent Egypt on the Human Rights Committee.
The weekend also included a tour around Oxford from Former Pupil, Riya Banerjee, who is currently reading PPE at Oriel College in Oxford. Riya is a former Secretary General of Model UN and helped give the pupils an insight into where their endeavours can lead them.
Well done to all pupils who took part and represented the school, and themselves, very well.
