Rector Appointment

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Ronan as the new Rector of Hutchesons’ Grammar School.

Following an extensive recruitment process, led by the Perritt Laver agency, Mark will begin his new position on August 1st, 2024.

This appointment marks an exciting and positive new chapter for our school. With an excellent track record in education and leadership in schools across the world – from Ireland to Australia – Mark brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has served as Headmaster for over fifteen years at two prestigious independent schools, Pocklington School in Yorkshire, and The King’s Hospital School in Dublin.

Mark is passionate about the Hutchesons’ school ethos and leading an academic institution that not only delivers outstanding examination results but also enables every child to flourish and reach their potential physically, creatively, spiritually, and socially. As a school committed to adapting and improving continuously, we are in turn thrilled about the opportunity to benefit from his extensive knowledge and expertise.

When offered the role Mark said:

“I feel very privileged to be the next Rector of Hutchesons’ Grammar School. I was impressed by the passion and commitment of the students, staff, and governors I met during the appointment process. Fiona and I are delighted to be relocating to the great city of Glasgow and will be ready to meet you all after the summer break.”

The Board of Governors wishes especially to extend our thanks to outgoing Rector Mike Martin for his incredible leadership over the past year, for which we are immensely grateful. Mark will continue to build on the fantastic work Mike has done, with the support of our exceptional staff team.

Opportunities will be available in the coming months for both current and prospective pupils and parents to meet Mark and get to know him better. I am sure that you will look forward to welcoming Mark into the Hutchesons’ school community.

John MacLeod
On behalf of the Board of Governors
