UK CANSAT Competition

Hutchie hosted the regional heat of the UK CANSAT competition, organised by ESERO (the education branch of the European Space Agency) this week.

Teams of students are required to build a fully functional satellite inside the dimensions of a standard drinks can. The can-sats are tested by being dropped from a drone or, as in today’s case, from a tethered helium balloon.

Hutchie’s team, Saura, had a partially successful test flight. The satellite survived impact and the hardware all functioned as expected. Unfortunately a software glitch limited the information which was received by the pupils; Fraser, Suhit, Callum and Berti.

The team have resolved the issue and wait anxiously to find out if their can-sat is to be selected for the full UK national competition, which will be held in York in April.
