Teams of students are required to build a fully functional satellite inside the dimensions of a standard drinks can. The can-sats are tested by being dropped from a drone or, as in today’s case, from a tethered helium balloon.
Hutchie’s team, Saura, had a partially successful test flight. The satellite survived impact and the hardware all functioned as expected. Unfortunately a software glitch limited the information which was received by the pupils; Fraser, Suhit, Callum and Berti.
The team have resolved the issue and wait anxiously to find out if their can-sat is to be selected for the full UK national competition, which will be held in York in April.
