World Champion

Congratulations to P6 pupil Myles who won the under 12 piano competition at the ‘All Ireland Fleadh’ in Drogheda last month – making him the under 12 world champion of traditional Irish piano.

There were 14 in the competition and Myles got through 2 qualifying competitions in April (Scotland) and June (Britain) to get there. Three of the competitors were from the USA and there was one competitor from Japan!

At just 9-years-old, he came 3rd in piano accordion, again with competitors from all over the world.

Siblings Myles and April (P4) are members of a 20-strong, under 12 group all under, which came first in its category – this is the first time this has been achieved in 14 years.

Myles and April also competed in duets but didn’t place and April took part in the open age competition for newly composed tune on the day too. Although she didn’t place, April performed incredibly well on the day.

Myles is currently working towards completing his Grade 6 piano exams.
