Project One Campus Underway

February 2025
One Vision | One Community | One Campus

In line with the project’s phased construction strategy, the commitment to zero disruption to pupils remains central, with key construction activities programmed during school holiday periods. As a result, Sprint 2 Build One was scheduled for delivery during the February Half -term Break. This resulted in:

  • the delivery and completion of the four taster classrooms
  • main corridor redevelopment
  • designs finalised for the Primary One and Primary Two ground floor classrooms

Pupil & Staff Consultation

February 2025
Play & Outdoor Seating Areas

The tender process for external play and outdoor seating areas completed and these external works will deliver inclusive, accessible outdoor spaces for pupils across all age groups. Pupils and staff have also been involved in selecting colour schemes, helping to create a consistent classroom identity and clearly defined learning spaces across the School.

Library & Inclusive Spaces

Work is also ongoing in partnership with Page Park Architects to enhance our library provision. Staff and pupils have been involved in reviewing space use and flow to ensure the library supports learning and colocation needs effectively,  ensuring we deliver high-quality and inclusive spaces for our children with Additional Support for Learning needs.

Toilet Provisions

Toilet provision has also progressed significantly with a detailed toilet specification now completed, and crucially, pupils have been actively engaged in this process, with their feedback helping to inform what a safe, inclusive, and dignified toilet space should look like. This approach ensures the final design reflects pupil needs and supports wellbeing, privacy, and accessibility.

Bell Construction Appointed

February 2026

We are pleased to announce our new construction partnership with Bell as part of our ongoing investment in our School’s development.

Through this collaboration, we look forward to working together as we move ahead with our plans to colocate on one campus, ensuring the highest standards for our pupils and staff.

We are confident this partnership will strengthen our facilities and will lead to a productive and successful working relationship.

Bell Construction said:

We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Hutchesons’ Grammar School, delivering the first in a series of refurbishment projects following consolidation of their Primary and Secondary Schools. Great to play a part in creating a refreshed environment that reflects the School’s bold new chapter.

Sprint 1 Complete

January 2026

Consultations with pupils, parents, teaching and support staff were held and the insightful feedback helped generate further ideas, address concerns and shape the plans.

All building warrant requirements for the project were completed and approved, enabling works to move forward as planned.

A principal contractor for security works has been on site since mid-January delivering enhancements, including new security gates, a 3-metre-high fence to the rear of the property to prevent unauthorised access via the service yard, and upgrades to the front gates with new CCTV coverage and digital locking systems. This work represents a major step towards a fully secured school perimeter for both Primary and Secondary pupils.

Project Milestones

December 2025

The Colocation project is being delivered using an agile project management approach, with the overall programme structured into nine defined sprints.

The School is making the required investment in the estate, representing a significant commitment to improving learning environments, safety, and accessibility for all pupils.

The overarching focus of the Colocation Project remains on achieving zero disruption to pupils and maintaining continuity of learning throughout the delivery period. The sprint-based delivery model supports this objective by allowing works to be carefully phased, aligned with school holiday periods where possible, and managed through clearly defined
outputs. This ensures the delivery of a high-quality project with clear, measurable, and pupil-centered outcomes.

A Bold New Chapter For Hutchesons’

October 2025

We are delighted to announce plans for a Campus for Excellence, bringing our Primary and Secondary Schools together on a single site, alongside a refreshed curriculum and reaffirmation of our vision and values.

From August 2027, Primary pupils will join their peers at Beaton Road, creating a single, colocated campus, which will allow all pupils to access the School’s specialist facilities for Science, Art, Drama, Music and Sport, while strengthening the sense of one connected community.

Mark Ronan, Rector & CEO said,

“These developments signal a clear ambition. By aligning our curriculum, campus and values, we are ensuring a unified educational experience for every child, both now and in the future.”

One Campus, One Community
A consultation exercise will ensure that pupils, parents, and staff are engaged in informing the next stage of planning and design.

Bringing the Primary and Secondary Schools together unlocks new opportunities for every pupil while preserving the strengths, traditions and identity that make Hutchesons’ unique.

Mr Ronan continued,

“This is more than a relocation – it is an investment in our future. We are investing in more than buildings. We are investing in the future of every Hutchesons’ pupil.”

A Campus Designed for Learning & Wellbeing
The Beaton Road site will be upgraded with a range of new and improved spaces for pupils and the wider school community, including a reimagined Beaton Road Arrival Court as a green space demonstrating climate adaptation, a versatile social area, a garden outdoor classroom for quiet learning and reflection, and an Active Play Zone for physical adventure.

A new vehicle-free Darnley Gardens Arrival Court and a welcoming pedestrian frontage will provide safe, welcoming access while reinforcing the School’s identity.

Sustainability and wellbeing are central to the plans, with greener landscaped areas and flexible indoor learning environments designed to support collaboration, creativity and modern teaching.

A Curriculum for Our Pupils & Their Futures
Alongside the campus developments, the refreshed curriculum will provide clearer learning pathways and connections to real-world applications.

These Schools of Excellence allow pupils to focus on areas of study aligned with their interests and strengths while continuing to benefit from a broad education. The pathways include:

  • School of Science, Engineering and Medicine
  • School of Arts, Design, Sport & Performance
  • School of Law, Language, Culture, Business & Government

The Schools of Excellence are designed to help pupils develop practical skills, deepen their knowledge and prepare for further education and future careers. Pupils continue to study a broad range of subjects, maintaining flexibility whilst having access to structured support in their areas of interest.

Belong, Flourish and Achieve
Our school experience is founded on its values of honesty, compassion, curiosity, creativity, resilience, and independence.

“An education at Hutchesons’ is about much more than results – it’s about belonging, flourishing and achieving in every sense,” said Mr Ronan.
