Mrs Sheils, Dr Graham, Miss Beedham and Mrs Reece, introduced the pupils to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, which is one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays. As it is set across two worlds, the court of Athens and a mystical forest that lies beyond the city’s walls, the focus of the lesson was learning about myths and legends of fairies.
Adorned with their very own fairy wings, the English teachers captured their attention and also discussed poetic techniques as the pupil’s goal is to write a poem about fairies which will be displayed in the English corridor at Beaton Road.
Mrs Lawson, Head of English, said: “It is important to us to get to know our pupils, even before they join us at Beaton Road in August, and so teaching short periods of English allows us all to get acquainted.”
“This year’s transition activities have focused on ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, a text each S1 pupil studies with us within the department.”
“We hope they have enjoyed the experience and the English Department looks forward to seeing them when they join us at the Senior School in August.”
We look forward to reading the poems and seeing them displayed in the English corridor soon.
