In a scheme overseen by YPI Scotland, pupils prepared presentations to demonstrate the work of their chosen charity and the impact the grant would make. YPI is a programme of The Wood Foundation.
Yesterday afternoon the final was held in the Fotheringay Auditorium, where three groups presented to a panel of judges. The charities the pupils represented were Give A Dog A Bone, AWARE Scotland, and CrossReach.
The panel of judges was jointly chaired by School Captains Ava and Ainsley (S6), and also included the Rector, Mark Ronan, and Annie Baker from the last year’s winning charity Glasgow Association for Mental Health (formerly Flourish House). Annie Baker also shared an update on how the £3,000 grant they received last year has helped their charity.
The afternoon began with a performance of Franz Strauss’ Nocturno by Eilidh (S6), who has recently been offered places at several prestigious music colleges around the UK. This was then followed by a screening of the short film “What Was I Made For?” made by S3 Drama pupils. Whilst the judges made their deliberations the audience was entertained by musical performances from a number of S3 pupils.
The judges explained that the decision was extremely difficult after a series of excellent presentations, but ultimately decided to award the grant to CrossReach – congratulations Sanvi, Emma, Lucy, and Olivia.
CrossReach is a charity that provides a person-centred approach which aims to empower people of all ages to live life to the full. The grant will be used for children and young people with disabilities to alleviate waiting lists and provide respite and day service care.
Katie Flockhart from the charity said;
“Thank you so much for having us. The passion and light of the pupils shone through. We are so grateful for their commitment and support, and we look forward to making a meaningful impact with the grant.”
Very well done to all our S3 pupils who worked tirelessly to make the afternoon such a success.
