Led by emergency physician, Dr Tony Bleetman, as a former Army doctor, Dr Bleetman discussed the development of emergency, including the air ambulance service, medicine and the unique challenges of providing medical assistance in remote locations as well as his own experiences working in trauma care. Afterwards Dr Bleetman made himself available for questions, which several members of our Hutchie group really appreciated.
Aatish (S5) said;
“It was a very enjoyable and insightful trip. It was great learning about the past, present and future of surgery in the museum. Learning about Dr Bleetman’s experiences in the air ambulance was both interesting and eye opening as it was the first time I’d learnt anything of significant detail about emergency care.”
Raina (S5) said;
“I found the trip inspiring! Listening to Dr Tony Bleetman speak about his career in emergency medicine was really interesting, and it helped me understand what the job is really like and what it takes to work in that kind of environment. Having the opportunity to talk to someone so experience was so helpful and gave me a lot to think about afterwards! “
Anna (S5);
“The Surgeons’ Hall Museum was extremely interesting and the speech was enlightening. The whole experience was so enjoyable and I’m grateful I had the opportunity.”
Anya (S5)
“The trip to the royal college of surgeons was really enriching. From listening to Dr Tony Bleetman discussing his experiences to visiting the accompanying museum, we learned so much about what surgery and medicine has to offer and are so grateful for the experience.”
The pupils also explored the Surgeons Hall Museum with the robotics area being a particular highlight.
