Success at International Model UN Conference

Sixteen S5 and S6 pupils travelled to The Netherlands last week to participate in the Model UN International Conference at the Lorentz Lyceum in Arnhem.

After an early start, pupils made their way to Amsterdam for some lunch and enjoyed a visit to the A’dam Lookout, before heading on to the town of Arnhem.

Following an impressive Opening Ceremony on the Friday which involved dancers, a pianist and several inspiring speeches, LmunA23 was declared open. This year’s theme was “Finding equality in a polarised world”, and our pupils represented France, Malaysia, and Norway on Committees including Human Rights, Historical Security Council, Economic and Social Council and the Commission on the Status of Women. They engaged in lively debate in their committees on both Friday and Saturday before heading to the party at Stadsvilla Sonsbeek on Saturday night, where a great time was had by all.

Sunday saw plenary sessions, where committees were combined, and some external visits took place. The closing ceremony gave the opportunity for Chairs to comment on their committees and issue awards. Congratulations to James (S5), who won Best Delegate in the General Assembly 3 Committee, representing the UK.

Finally it was time to say goodbye, and following a terrific musical performance, the conference was declared closed. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial trip for all, and thank you to Mrs Keddie and Mrs Stewart for organising this experience for our pupils.
