With exams underway and 150 years of girls at Hutchesons’ being celebrated, we’re revisiting the girls’ school exam results from ...
Former Pupils returned to Kingarth Street to celebrate this significant milestone. With the sun shining, guests enjoyed exploring displays celebrating the history of the girls’ school, catching up with fellow Hutchiesonians, touring the school, and singing the girls’ school song.
The day was a wonderful reminder of our strong Hutchie community, and the generations of teachers who have inspired women for 150 years to Belong, Flourish and Achieve.
Over the last 150 years, the school has evolved alongside an ever-changing world shaped by war, technological advancement, and social change. As we reflect on this special occasion, we celebrate all the women who have walked the halls at Hutchie, those who helped shape opportunities for future generations and whose legacy reminds us how far women’s education has come.
In his speech, Rector, Mark Ronan, commented,
“I have spent time recently with Julie Devenney, our archivist, and what struck me was not the history itself, but the sense that each generation believed deeply that this school mattered and that those who passed through it carried part of it with them long afterwards.”
Indeed, the Hutchie spirit across the generations was magnified on the day, Mark Ronan also saying,
“When you walk through the school today, you still see that same determination, humour, friendship and ambition in the pupils now.”
Louise Duncan, our Development and Alumni Officer, commented on the event.
“It was so special to celebrate 150 years of girls’ education at Hutcheson’s Grammar with our event at Kingarth Street. It was great to see generations of Hutchie girls past and present come together for the day and enjoy exploring their old School. Thank you to all our alumni who came along.”
Thank you to all our former pupils and the Hutchie community who attended the event, as well as our School’s Alumni Office.
