Duke of Edinburgh success at Hutchesons Grammar School.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award continues to be a valued part of life at Hutchesons’, with both current pupils and former pupils achieving success through the programme.

Congratulations to FP Zain Bhatti (Class of 2023), who recently completed his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and attended a celebration at Buckingham Palace to mark this significant achievement.

He was greeted by Katie Jones, David Seaman, Sara Davies and Kelly Homes. HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, was there to present the awards.

Zain commented on the achievement.

“Gold DofE taught me that growth happens beyond my comfort zone, and attending the Buckingham Palace event was a memorable celebration of that journey”

The D of E awards are a continuing source of achievement at Hutchie. An impressive 75% of Silver participants have completed their award for the second year running at the Secondary School.

D of E is also about contributing to your community, which Hutchie pupils have excelled at by contributing 3,393 hours of Volunteering, which has a social value of £25,616.

Mr Colin Macleod, Computing Teacher and Head of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, commented.

“Our pupils can be proud of their achievements, as they have spent over 12 months, a few hours every week, working towards. Their commitment, determination and resilience are impressive. My personal highlight has been visiting them on their walking, sailing, canoeing or kayaking expeditions around Lochgoilhead and seeing their teamwork in action.”

The award aims at building confidence and real-world skills as participants participate in volunteering, as well as developing personal and physical skills. All of which they can carry with them far beyond school. Well done to all our current and former pupils.
